“Mister, can I talk to you?”
As a dean at a high school, I am often asked this question by students. I spend a large portion of my day counseling with students, and helping them overcome obstacles and make better choices. It is my philosophy to teach them thought skills to help prevent them from getting into trouble.
On this particular day, this student was very upset, and by the time he sat down, “A” was almost in tears. He then started crying as he described a particularly tough situation currently happening at home. I obviously could not send him back to class so aggitated, and just talking did not appear to be helping.
I then instructed him to do what I do, and say what I say. I asked him to rate the intensity on a scale of 0-10, and he rated it at a 10. I started by creating a simple set-up phrase that applied to his issue, namely, he was feeling guilty about being the cause of the particular issue. We then started to tap. I implement the top of the head point, and the forehead or “third eye” point. I also include tapping the inner wrists together. After the first round, he rated it as a 6. We then went through another round, and he then rated it a 0. He was then laughing, and saying that he thought things would probably work out after all.
This was amazing to him that he felt so much better in only a couple of minutes, and then he went back to class. As I saw him in the hallway later on, he was his usual happy self. I was so thankful to be in a position to help this student, with the amazing EFT tool.
As a side note, two days later, he came to tell me that the situation did indeed resolve itself, and all was well. I couldn’t help but think, what would the impact be if this type of result was occurring on school campuses around the country and around the world? Talk about forming our future!
